Koji Kondo, in charge of making sure it has the Mario sound to it. Wrote 4 songs.
Yokoda did all the composition and arrangement and also the orchestra arrangement/writing.
Kawamura did the soung programming and sound effects.
Iwata says the music from that video gives it a grand feeling. And he hasnt really seen Miyamoto with a facial expression like that before.
After the recording Miyamoto said hes glad they used an orchestra.
The scale of the orchestra was about 50 people and when they first started naturally since it was the first time they had seen the music and they had never heard it before it was rough around the edges at the start, but the orchestra got better and better at it very quickly. Even Miyamoto noticed that they were getting better.
This music will probably be used in Wii Music since Miyamoto liked it so much, according to Iwata.
Using an orchestra costs lots of money, and as expected matching up the games tempo was a problem. Recent games have very high quality sounds like most cds on the market, but whether the music matches up to the game or not is a problem.
Nintendo has wanted to have music that makes you feel like you are playing the game (rather than just listening to a cd while playing the game) so they havent used live performance music in the past.
It wasnt that they just wanted to use an orchestra. If you just put in the raw orchestra sound, even if you get the scale right, if the games tempo suffers, you get a worse result than not using an orchestra at all.
What they came up with with this prior recorded music allows for the game tempo to be better and allows the player to concentrate on playing. It was still a great effort to make this music though.
