"We have shipped over a thousand controller dev kits to developers so that they can begin getting experience with the controller mechanics," Fils-Aime elaborated.
For more than a year I've chatted with developers, gone to see pubishers, and it's always the same. I hear them talk about their Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 products, but they either don't know or don't care about Nintendo's new generation console, codenamed Revolution. I'd call it frustrating, but that'd be an understatement.
But times, they are a changing.
I've visted a handful of publishers in the last couple of weeks. I'm always armed with the question. It feels like I've asked it a million times. "Do you have anything in the works for Revolution?"
Usually, this query is met with blank stares or occasionally laughter. But more recently, the answers have been dramatically different. A rep for a major studio will come up to me and say, "We need to talk. We've got something for you." Another answers: "We are extremely excited about Revolution and we will have product for it at E3 2006."
Devs are getting kits. And I know of a half dozen major games -- not the ones announced by Nintendo, but real, tangible, working, playable things -- that are underway and ramping up. Everyone seems extremely enthusiastic about their projects, and based on what I know of a couple of them, it's easy to understand why.
It's contagious. I'm hyped. And I can't wait for this May.
Cubed3 a écrit :Crossbeam Studios Entertainment have been busy. As well as continuing with their demo of 'Orb' (which we will have more coverage of soon, including new artwork), they have managed to announce a new game exclusively for Nintendo Revolution.
'Thorn' is an action/adventure game that is being poised to use unique and innovative controls designed from the ground up for the Revolution's freehand controller. The game is set in the future in a world drenched with paranoia and occult happenings.
In 'Thorn', your character was previously a member of the Earth Defense Forces. Having retired three years previously, you receive a mysterious message from one of your ex-squad members, which tells you that he is in extreme, near-death danger on a planet out of the reach of bereaucracy. Being concerned, you head off only to find your friend has disappeared, you have become a fugitive, and things just keep going wrong. Alone, you are left to explore the dark underworld of a planet that is only balancing on the edge of human colonization.
One piece of artwork has been released thus far. Click the thumbnail below to see a larger version of it.
Touch Sensitivity: The Final Nintendo Revolution Secret?
Nintendo Revolution
Could a touch sensitivity pad on the Nintendo Revolution controller be the final secret?
Buried within our EA interview yesterday, EA spokesperson, Trudy Muller made an interesting comment regarding the Nintendo Revolution controller
“The beauty of the new Revolution controller is that the possibilities for new game ideas are limitless. I'm sure that Nintendo already has a number of phenomenal design concepts built around 3D Pointing or Touch Sensitivity for their 1st party games. Our developers are inspired and excited by the new controller's features.”
Initially we thought she might have been referring to the Nintendo DS touch screen, but after clarification, Muller said she was referring to a function of the Nintendo Revolution controller.
“[touch sensitivity] is related to what Nintendo may have in development for use around their Revolution controller.” Explained Muller.
So what does touch sensitivity actually mean? One theory is that the controller well have a panel similar to that of the DS. By using this touch panel on the controller, you can move the cursor item on the television screen in almost the same way the Nintendo DS functions.
Other theories invovle the contoller having an additonal attachment which will inovle touch sensitivity.
Perhaps this is the final secret that Nintendo has been guarding so closely?
