- EA continuera à appuyer toutes les consoles (incluant PSP et DS)EA Reports Big Profits, PSP and DS Support
The company's fiscal 2004 conference call reveals several tasty tidbits.
April 29, 2004 - During their fiscal year 2004 earnings conference call today, Electronic Arts not only reported strong revenue, but also confirmed plans to support both the Sony PSP and Nintendo Game Boy DS hand-held platforms.
Electronic Arts intends to be "aggressive and prolific" with the upcoming PSP system, while maintaining a "similar level of Game Boy Advance support going forward."
"We think that the PSP can be a very significant platform, arguably as big as the Game Boy business at some point in the future," commented CEO Larry Probst. Electronic Arts intends to be well-represented at the PSP's launch in March of 2005, and confirmed that it will present four to six PSP titles for the 2005 fiscal year. Given that EA's fiscal year ends in March, the chances are good that there will be four to six EA games available as the PSP hits.
Both Probst and Chief Financial Officer Warren Jensen emphasized the company's commitment to also support Nintendo's Game Boy DS system, though no details on the shape of this support were revealed. Also, despite the company's clear focus on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox, EA will continue to support the GameCube, with approximately 19 titles planned for Nintendo's console in fiscal 2005.
Little mention was made of EA's plans to incorporate Xbox Live in its products, apart from the statement that discussions with Microsoft are continuing.
Financially, Electronic Arts is thriving as much as ever. The company reported a net revenue of $2.96 billion for fiscal 2004, up 19% from the $ 2.482 billion reported in the previous year. More dramatically, EA's posted net income for 2004 was $577 million, up an impressive 82% from fiscal 2003's profit.
EA credits this success to its key franchises, such as The Sims, licenses such as Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter, and stalwart sports franchises like Madden NFL Football and Need for Speed.
The company states that going forward, it intends to continue to build on these strong titles and brands, as well as seek out new franchise and license opportunities. Fiscal 2005 titles such as The Sims 2, Golden Eye 2, the next Madden, and both the Lord of the Rings RPG and PC RTS title are key for the company's continued success.
